Lightwire is a flexible copper wire coated with phosphor that glows when excited by high frequency AC. When illuminated, the light emitted from the lightwire appears with a 'neon look' and is cool to the touch.
Lightwire is very flexible and can be bent to any shape. It is great for costumes, masks, signage, theater props and bicycle illumination, as well as a host of other applications. The life of illuminated Lightwire will last for thousands of hours.
We offer two types of Lightwire, standard brightness (comes in three gauges) and high brightness (comes in two gauges). The natural color of Lightwire is aqua and additional colors are determined by the colored sheath that surrounds it. (See our chart below for available colors.)
Our Lightwire comes in a variety of gauges. The thickness of the sheath sets the Lightwire gauge which ranges from 1.2 mm to 5.0 mm thickness.

Lightwire is available in our store in lengths of one foot or longer. You must specify the COLOR and LENGTH (in feet) of EACH purchase on your shopping cart page. When ordering DIY Lightwire lengths, also order a Lightwire-side snap connector for each Lightwire segment you order. If you want your Lightwire lengths soldered, "Plug & Play" (SOLDERING FEE: $4.00 per each length soldereded--billed as "Handling Fee" in the Shopping Cart), you must order from the righthand "Add to Cart" button. ANGEL WIRE

Angel wire is our thinnest and most flexible of all our wire gauges as well as the most delicate. It is excellent for costumes, indoor sculptures and jewelry work. Angel Wire is recommended for mostly indoor use, as this diameter is sunlight sensitive.

Standard Lightwire can bend into a circle as small as a pencil. It has an additional outer vinyl sheath for more durability. It is an excellent choice for all uses including costumes, sculptures, signs and bicycle decoration. It can be used for both indoor and outdoor applications.

Approximate shelf life is 2500 hours.

PHATT WIRE

Phatt Lightwire is our thickest and most durable of the three standard Lightwire gauges and has a thick outer vinyl sheath. It can be bent around the diameter of a nickel. It is excellent for dramatic visual effects when used in combination with the Angel or Standard Lightwire gauges. Best use is outdoors for sculptures, signs, bicycle decoration, or theme camp applications.
Note: Can be illuminated in steady state, blink, strobe, and sequenced modes.
Approximate shelf life is 2500 hours.

HIGH BRIGHTNESS STANDARD WIRE

NEW! Lightwire is now available in a high brightness (2.5 mm) format. High Brightness Lightwire is about 150% BRIGHTER than Standard Brightness Lightwire. It is stiffer (curl it around your finger and it will hold that spiral shape!) and perfect for many applications. High Brightness Lightwire dims to half brightness after about 3,000 hours of continuous use (frequency dependent), 500 more hours compared to our Standard Brightness Lightwire.

Leadwire is used to extend the Lightwire design from the initial point, coming from the driver/battery and non-lighted part of the design, to the point where the Lightwire actually starts--frequently 10 inches or more from the driver. (Solder to Lightwire side connector lead wires on one end and solder other end to Lightwire as described in our Soldering Quick Reference (PDF) . The length of lead wire does not affect the length/amount of Lightwire that the driver can light up.)
